I’m going to try and get a t-shirt design accepted for Threadless.

Threadless are an online t-shirt selling company that pay around $2000 per design accepted.

It’s not as easy as it sounds though. There’s a rigorous set of criteria that need to be followed, plus your design goes out to be voted on by Threadless members. If it gets above a certain amount of votes it is accepted, you get cash in hand, fame and the freedom of the city of Penge.

So, this area of me blog shall follow my design progress from concepts through to inevitable disappointment :)

Threadless can be found here.

Started out as the basis for a science fiction book cover. This was going to be the start of an other world city, but it never got past this basic stage. Made with Cinema 4d and rendered with Vray.

The scale is all wrong with it as it stands, the cylinder shaped objects look quite small due to the large bump maps and would need a fair bit of work to give the illusion something big enough to live in.

Best gardens in the world I would imagine.

This is an oversize A4 2 sided map folded to four panel dl. It has a green and brown garden colour scheme, novel eh?

Book concept for the National Library of Australia. It is a sister book to Australian Backyard Astronomy which was published a few years back. Each chapter is to convey a feel and taste of the explorer in question.

The book, as with it’s predecessor, will include hand drawn as well as 3D renders to help illustrate the included projects.

Logo for the Wagner Society of South Australia.

It’s a 3D render, not that you can tell really. The drop shadow was a late addition. It was meant to convey the Sturm und Drang of his music as well as stay away from the obvious mention of his Ring Cycle and all the hilarity that can ensue. wagnerok.jpg

T-Shirt design for a bloke who wanted the elite members of his gym to be able to show others in the gym just how elite they were. Available only in small sizes to help the biceps look bigger.

Taken in winter 2004.

This is one of the slopes of Mount Stromlo in Canberra around a year or so after the bush fires hit the western suburbs. The nitrogen rich soil was quick to spring into life once the rains came back.

Whole pine plantations were wiped out, at least 4 people lost their lives and hundreds of houses were lost during the fires.

A lightning strike in Namadgi National Park some ten days earlier had caused minor fires which were left to smoulder, over a week later temperatures of around 40C and gale force winds fanned the flames into a fury that hit the city.

You can stuff the Turner Prize. The above piece of work should, in my opinion win awards for it’s creator. I think it’s the asymetric eyebrows that give it the touch of genius that helps it rise above its peers.

It is without any doubt a work of genius. Unfortunately the art is unsigned, so the artist remains forever anonymous.

:(

Here is Wikipedias entry on smileys. It’s very dull.

The Library of Congress, that’s the American Library of Congress I suppose, has over 1200 images at Flickr of the 30s, 40s and World War II era.

A favourite of mine is Mrs Deirdre Washboard of Kuntucket, with one of her early Sudoku prototypes.
